The Bates Method

The Bates Method

The Bates Method was developed at the beginning of the 19th Century by Dr William H Bates, an ophthalmologist in America. The method aims to enhance eyesight without the aid of lenses or surgery. It is a combination of relaxation and exercises which naturally strengthen the muscles which control the eye. Dr Bates reasoned that perfect vision is the product of perfectly relaxed eyes, unconsciously controlled. He thought that it is misuse of the eyes leads to many vision defects and that the eyes could be re-educated using this series of exercises.

The Bates Method can supposedly benefit people of all ages regardless of whether their eyesight is good or poor.

The Bates Method is especially useful in treating the following health conditions:
eye problems – short and long sight, squinting, astigmatism, glaucoma, cataracts; learning difficulties.
